A&E Transport can normally operate a transportation system at lower costs than a district because:
- A&E Transport has volume purchasing power for items such as tires, parts and supplies that far exceeds that of a district.
- By chartering buses on weekends, evenings and summer, additional revenue helps keep A&E Transport's fixed costs low
- The costs involved for saftey programs, computerized routing and other functions are shared by a large fleet serving multiple districts.
Rates for the years following the initial year of a multi-year contract are based on mutually agreed upon data, such as that provided by the United States Department of Labor and the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
